Another way is noticing when our heart is proper. And not just noticing but also responding. Responding is strengthening and we definitely want to do that. To me this is a way to befriend my own heart. To me, a good friend helps us realize mistakes but also cheers and encourages the good things.
I found it helpful to respond even to small things, as long as it's proper. For instance this morning, half asleep half awake, I noticed my heart going "mm I want warm Cherrie juice and my favorite book."
I went to the kitchen smiling at my somewhat strange breakfast. Tasted great!
